I have some disturbing news today that some reading this may find upsetting. It surrounds a Costa Rican “artist” who displayed a starving dog as part of a presentation.
Guillermo Vergas Habacus paid some children to chase and catch the dog on the streets, after which he chained up the poor animal in the gallery telling the viewing public not to feed or water it. The dog slowly starved to death and eventually died in the gallery in view of everyone.
The act goes almost beyond cruelty in my book. It is totally despicable, and perhaps what makes it worse is that this “artist” was even allowed to do this and that no-one stepped in to help. And to make things worse, Mr Habacus has been selected to represent Costa Rica in the "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008" as a direct result of the presentation. An online petition has been launched to prevent this going ahead, which you can find here.
I don’t really know what else to say with this one. I feel a little sick…

hoax or no hoax there is absolutely no excuse to treat anyone or animal this way, even for the sake of art. We can already see animal cruelty for what its worth without, "An artist," to show us.
If this is indeed what happened the artist should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and the people chastised for permitting this to happen.
Whoever this artist is needs tied in time square and starved till death. or crucified in public. what a fuck.
According to the email I received:

From the Animal Legal Defense Fund:
At this point, we feel the most effective method of protest is to write local animal protection agencies demanding they put a stop to this exhibit. You can search for agencies here in the Latin America/Caribbean section at
http://worldanimalnet.org/
EMAIL THESE GALLERIES AND TELL THEM TO PUT A STOP TO THIS HORRIBLE CRUELTY.
There is also a petition:

LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER AND PUT A STOP TO THIS!!!
As this was a hoax, or stunt, or whatever you would like to call it, this indeed is an awe inspiring piece of work. It has certainly achieved its stated goal (obviously no one stepped in to rescue the animal, which is pathetic), and has certainly done a fantastic job of catching international attention and influencing hearts and minds.
Perhaps, therefore, the rest of us would be better off putting our energies into doing something useful about the plight of real starving feral animals, as opposed to screaming our rage, impotently, on the internet.
im goin to chain him up..... watch him stave..... to death..... watch him beg for food......all in the name of art...
see how he fucking likes it! sick and twisted man!
i cant believe people would go to this art gallery and just walk past this poor harmless dog and watch it die!!!
they are just as bad as the people who fucking tied the dog up!!!!
why didnt no1 do anythink about this!!
RSPCA is avaliable and would have sone everythink in there power to get the dog out of the gallery not that much for a fone call now is it
if it was a child chained to the wall and left to starve to death then that would be a diffrent story!!
i just cant believe how sick and twisted some people are!!
just goes to chow there are devils out there and they will go nowere but hell wen they die!!!!
SICK!!!!!
